Oleron _The Luminous_ is the second largest French island after Corsica. Oleron is 175 Km² and has an exceptional climate. In Oleron you can find beautiful sandy beaches, labelled Pavillon Bleu (A Blue Flag award for very good environmental standards) and it is a little haven for nautical sports (windsurfing, kite surfing, sand yachting, canoeing, etc). Go for a walk, ride a bike or a horse to the heart of the pine forest and the marshes. Don't hesitate to stop for a nature escape in _Les mara... is aux oiseaux_ (The bird marshes) in Dolus and _Le Port des Salines_ in Grand Village. Moreover, Oléron has an exceptional historic heritage including the well known Fort Boyard, citadels of Oléron and Brouage castles, churches and some small typical villages with lovely coloured fishermen houses

Notwithstanding the unseasonably wet weather we again enjoyed the first three weeks of our stay at Le Domaine d'Oleron. We were given a warm welcome by Melusine, Ben, Wayne and the other staff. Nothing is too much trouble. We witnessed examples of this both in relation to our own requirements and those of others. The persistant wet weather caused problems for a number of us and Ben, in particular, was unstinting in his efforts to resolve and alleviate their effects. His work around the site over the last year landscaping with flowers, plants and other improvements has enhanced the site.
Accommodation review
Level, good sized pitch on an attractive on and well maitained site. Fresh water taps and grey waterpoints disposal points are numerous. Quality showers and toilet facilities are relatively close by. A second closer but smaller block was opened later in our stay.
It seems like each year there are a few more camping pitches being lost through being used for static/chalet accomodation.

The island was a calm and quiet place with good cycle routes . Staff at site were excellent as was the pool area and bar/restaurant.
The new pitches in front of sanitary facilities need a bit more attention!!

Lovely site with good facilities. We enjoyed a couple of meals at the bar. The staff were all charming.
It would have been helpful to have more warning that reception was closed for arrivals until 14.45.

Our pitch was in a lovely position, very close to the facilities, which is what we asked for.
Our pitch was badly affected by the wet weather. It was always muddy and at times there was standing water.
